ARCHIVED - Voter registration deadline imminent
Voting registration update: action required by qualifying British expats wishing to vote
For British expats who qualify and wish to vote in the municipal elections on May 28 the window to register will close very shortly.
To qualify you must be a resident of Spain with a current registered address on the "padrón" in the municipality where you live and must have resided in Spain for a minimum period of 3 uninterrupted years.
Those who received pre-completed registration letters will need to action them BEFORE January 15 if using the online method or 2.30pm Friday January 13 if posting at Correos (the registration document has pre-paid postage).
Those who haven’t received the registration letter will need to register at the Town Hall BEFORE 2pm Friday January 13, reports received from people who have registered this way in Mazarrón have been very positive with the procedure only taking about 5 minutes.
To register at the Town Hall no appointment is necessary: just take your proof of residence, either TIE Card or green Residencia card or paper, and padrón document (you should be on the Town Hall database but it is worth taking your Padrón paperwork in case of query), tell the security officer or reception staff of your wish to register (in Spanish “Quiero registrarme para votar en las elecciones municipales”) and you will be directed to a member of staff who will complete the form for you and give you a proof of registration paper.
You will not be able to vote in May if you do not register before the deadline even if you have voted in Spain on previous occasions.
