New Camposol hospital to offer state-of-the-art robot surgery
Soon to open private hospital to be first private health centre in the Region of Murcia to incorporate this type of technology
The Hospital del Guadalentín located in the Camposol urbanisation, Mazarrón, is to have the first robotic surgery technology seen in a private medical facility in the Region of Murcia.
The soon to open hospital, part of the Mederi Salud Group, has announced that the centre will have the first Da Vinci robot in private healthcare in the Region. This will put the medical centre at the forefront of surgery in this part of Spain, where until now it was only possible to access this surgical technology in one of the four public health hospitals in the Murcia health area. In addition, the Guadalentín Hospital will be the only hospital in the region that has this particular state-of-the-art technology.
Sometimes known as keyhole surgery, the benefits of this system is that it combines the advantages of open surgery with those of laparoscopy and allows the treatment of anatomical areas that are difficult to access through incisions of a few centimetres.
The Hospital's medical director, Yolanda Morales, was very pleased to announce "Being able to operate with the Da Vinci (robot) means doing it with four robotic arms capable of reproducing the movement of the surgeon's hands, which also performs 360-degree movements impossible for a human and eliminates any involuntary tremor."
Morales also explained other advantages of the robot, such as "the vision of the area to be operated in three dimensions and the possibility of enlarging the image up to ten times the real size".
The robot is especially useful for urology specialties, such as prostate cancer, since thanks to the precision and minimal invasion of the area, the patient recovers faster. The Da Vinci robot will also be used in other fields such as gynecology or general surgery.
An announcement was recently made that the hospital would open before the summer and a recruiting drive was in progress to fill 150 professional positions.
