Ukrainian couple jump from Malaga apartment in alleged suicide pact
The man and woman are believed to have jumped from the eighth floor of the Costa del Sol flats

At 7.40am on Tuesday April 1, residents of the Cruz de Humilladero neighbourhood in Malaga were awakened by a loud thudding noise. A short time later, the National Police confirmed that a man and woman from Ukraine, aged 64 and 60, had plunged from the eight floor of an apartment block.
Initial investigations suggest this may have been a planned suicide.
"Shortly after 7.30am, I heard a very loud explosion and went outside my workshop to see if a window or something had fallen in. I saw a girl running down the street, and she told me, as best she could, that there were two people on the ground, covered in blood, who had jumped from a balcony or a window," Francisco, an auto repair shop worker located just 50 metres from the apartment building, told local media.
Francisco called the 112 Emergency Service and police, firefighters and paramedics quickly arrived on the scene, but sadly there was nothing they could do.
According to the National Police, no signs of violence were observed, so they have ruled out any instances of gender-based violence.
Other locals living on nearby Calle Madre Teresa de Calcuta also reported hearing some sort of explosion: “I heard a very loud noise, like a gas cylinder had exploded or something, and I looked out onto the street.
There was a body there, and it seems another body was thrown out later,” one man said. However, while it does appear that one victim jumped before the other, investigators have combed the couple’s apartment and ruled out an explosion.
Several neighbours have confirmed that the deceased couple were originally from Ukraine and hadn’t been living in the area very long.
