ARCHIVED - Puerto de Mazarron gets its first ever dog park, complete with agility equipment
A new dog park has been opened for pets to run free and socialise together next to the Mazarrón Park shopping area in Puerto de Mazarrón

Dog owners are delighted as the very first dedicated recreational area for dogs has been opened in Puerto de Mazarrón near the Mazarrón Park shopping area.
The first ever canine recreation area in the municipality of Mazarrón, which is located in La Charca, near the Mazarrón Park shopping complex, was officially opened this Wednesday, October 12, by the Mayor of Mazarrón, Gaspar Miras, along with the Deputy Mayor, Ginés Campillo, and the Councillor for Animal Welfare, Silvia García.
Covering a green area of over 2000 square metres, the new dog park has repurposed a piece of old land that was in disuse and turned it into a service that´s truly useful for all pet owners in Mazarrón.

As well as creating the specific area for dogs, authorities have also taken this opportunity to improve the facilities and the surroundings of the existing park, installing new items of street furniture such as litter bins, benches, pergolas and lighting.
The dog park itself has a fenced-off area for dog owners to let their animals run free in a closed, protected environment. The park also has equipment for dog agility training, including an obstacle course for dogs that consists of a jumping hoop, a walkway, a jumping fence, a tunnel and weave poles.

For the Councillor for Animal Welfare, Silvia García, this is “an area in demand by all those of us who have pets, a safe place where they can run, exercise, play and socialise with other dogs without the need to be on a leash.”
In addition, García says she hopes that people can “take care of the facility and respect its rules, making good use of it, because if the result is positive, we can continue to install such facilities in other areas of the municipality.”
