New bus fare discounts in La Manga and Cabo de Palos
The cheap fares are made possible thanks to 20,000 euros contributed by Cartagena and San Javier
Residents of
La Manga and Cabo de Palos will soon enjoy great discounts on four urban bus lines as a new contract has just been signed with the transport company TUSCARSA. This agreement has been made possible thanks to a 20,000-euro increase in contributions from the town councils of San Javier and
Cartagena.
Initially, the agreement offered discounts on lines 43 (Cartagena-Pedruchillo) and 44 (
Cabo de Palos-Veneziola). Now, these discounts have been extended to include lines 23 (
Los Urrutias-La Manga) and 46 (
San Pedro del Pinatar-La Manga). This expansion ensures that more residents can benefit from affordable and accessible public transport.
The discounted bus fares will be available to certain groups, including large families, retirees, young people and the unemployed. Fares will range from 30 cents to 80 cents per journey, depending on the category.
Additionally, free travel is available for users in more vulnerable situations, such as the disabled and people at risk of social exclusion.
Councillor for Finance, Héctor Verdú, pointed out that with this agreement “we are responding to a historical demand of the residents of La Manga del Mar Menor” and announced that the San Javier Town Council “continues to work with the regional government so that in the coming months new agreements on transport can be signed that improve the quality of life of our residents”.
Residents can obtain transport cards at the La Manga Consortium offices, located at Gran Vía Km 1.4, Plaza de Europa, Stella Maris building, ground floor, 30380 La Manga del Mar Menor. The office is open to the public from 9am to 2pm.
At a meeting held on Monday January 20, regional Minister for Public Works, Jorgen García Montoro outlined several key actions and plans for the area. He highlighted the unblocking of the consolidation work on the Isleta bridge, a project valued at 500,000 euros that will be possible this year thanks to a 200,000-euro contribution from his ministry.
The minister also discussed the improvement of the La Manga expressway (RM-12), where more than 1.3 million euros have been invested to reinforce the road surface. Additionally, the installation of acoustic screens at its passage through Los Belones, costing 560,000 euros, was mentioned as another significant investment by the regional government.
