Murcia police halt crime gang smuggling Belgian horses to Libya via Cartagena
The Guardia Civil have arrested a man for the trafficking of nearly 100 horses with falsified documentation
Spain’s Guardia Civil, in collaboration with the Animal Health Service of the Region of Murcia and police authorities in Belgium, has developed an operation named ‘Cabiano’ which is currently investigating the head of a company for transporting Belgian horses to countries such as Libya and Lebanon using false documentation.
The man in question is suspected of trying to export almost 100 horses from Cartagena with illicit papers. The horses, which are originally from Belgium, were brought across the border to Spain and from the coastal city of Cartagena were to be transported to the northern African countries of Libya and Lebanon.
The head of the company that is responsible for the trafficking has now been stopped. However, 90 horses have already been sent to Libya, and a further two horses have been sent to Lebanon.
