ARCHIVED - Mazarron keeps demanding a 24-hour health service after being ignored for 3 years
The summer health service is due to end on September 4, after which it will be cut back significantly
Mazarrón Council has sent a message to the Regional Ministry of Health in Murcia to demand that the 24-hour emergency service should not be closed on September 4, but should remain open all year round.
Speaking at a press conference outside the Puerto de Mazarrón Health Centre, Mazarrón’s Councillor for Health, Francisco García, pointed out that due to a decision by the Regional Government, Mazarrón will only have three ambulances to cover the whole territory from mid-September.
He also underscored that the Regional Ministry is ignoring all the demands that are being made over the last 3 years by the government team.
For his part, the First Deputy Mayor Ginés Campillo wanted to emphasise once again the health deficiencies of the municipality, which have been going on for years now. He said that the population of Puerto de Mazarrón expands in the summer season by up to 4 times its normal size, and the time has come for the Autonomous Community of Murcia, who always say no to emergency services in Puerto de Mazarrón, to give the people of Mazarrón the right to the 24-hour healthcare that they have been demanding for so long.
Mayor Gaspar Miras expressed the weariness suffered by the municipality of Mazarrón with regard to the neglect by the Murcia Government in terms of the treatment they receive with respect to health services.
Mazarrón has been demanding that their 24-hour health service be open 365 days a year since 2019, claiming it as a right of the more than 13,000 inhabitants of the municipality.
Now, fed up of so many delays and of not being heard, the Mayor has called for citizens to gather outside the Puerto de Mazarrón Health Centre on September 3 so that this demand, which has been requested for so long, can finally be heard and the Regional authorities will see how much popular support there is for this initiative. The meeting starts at 20.00.
