Mazarron Council plan manned refuse and recycling point on Camposol Sector C
The mystery of the fenced off area behind the hotel is solved as Mazarrón Council move forward with a planned recycling collection point
After pressure from Silvana Buxton, Mazarrón Councillor for Camposol, to resolve the problem of rubbish and bulk waste being dumped indiscriminately at a site on Camposol’s Sector C, Mazarrón Council are moving forward with a plan to install a refuse and recycling point behind the currently vacant Sensol Hotel on Sector C of the Camposol development.
This area was recently cleaned and fenced off in readiness for the refuse and recycling containers to be placed inside the fence. Along with the normal waste bins, recycling containers for glass, plastic and metallic containers, paper and cardboard, garden green waste as well as an area for large items such a furniture, appliances etc will be available.
The initial project was approved by the Council’s governing board on May 5 with the site’s operation and maintenance being placed under the control of Bahía de Mazarrón Urban Engineering 2007, SLU ,the concern contracted by Mazarrón Council to carry out waste and recycling services.
A similar smaller project was put forward by a Camposol resident in September 2022 during the Citizens Budget participation competition, but did not reach the voting stage as it was felt the operation should be manned which meant the proposal exceeded the financial limit for the completion.
The fenced off collection point or punto verde as it is referred to by the council will have an entrance booth which will be manned morning and afternoon/evenings. Plans are also being considered to create a buffer zone or vegetation screen between the collection point and the hotel. The contract is initially for a period of 4 years and is aimed at providing a better service for residents and visitors while at the same time eliminating the fly tipping and illegal dumping of waste that is causing problems in the urbanisation.
