Latest La Manga drawbridge break-down causes Friday afternoon traffic chaos
The Estacio de la Manga bridge got stuck again, bringing busy weekend traffic to a grinding halt

Another malfunction on the Estacio Bridge in La Manga caused major traffic jams on Friday afternoon, August 22. Boats trying to pass through were unable to do so because the bridge was lowered and stuck, according to eyewitnesses.
Those affected say this marks the third time the bridge has failed during the summer months.
"It was supposed to be raised at four in the afternoon to allow the boats to pass, but it's broken," one local noted. With the structure immobilised, boat owners had no choice but to turn around.
"It was a real mess: the boats had to turn around, they were all together," another resident explained.
This issue is nothing new and continues to cause delays for both boats and vehicles, creating fristration among residents and holidaymakers. The bridge also broke down once in July and again earlier this August.
In July, a mechanical fault disrupted traffic for around an hour and forty minutes, according to the La Manga-Veneziola residents' association. Workers eventually managed to lower both sections of the footbridge manually, but vehicles were unable to move straight away.
During the stoppage, numerous vehicles were trapped on both sides, including an ambulance responding to an emergency.
