Mazarron Council coalition agreement reached between UIDM and PSOE to continue in government
Ginés Campillo will be the next Mayor of Mazarrón after agreement was reached to continue the UIDM-PSOE pact for another 4 years
Barring last-minute surprises, Mazarrón Council will have the same local government as in the last 4 years.
On the evening of June 15 The Independent Union of Mazarrón (UIDM) party and the socialist PSOE party sealed an agreement to continue the pact they formed in 2019, leaving the Popular Party (PP) of Alicia Jiménez in opposition even though the PP party gained the most votes in the municipal election on May 28.
The position of Mayor of Mazarrón during the next legislature will be in the hands of Ginés Campillo, leader of UIDM, taking over from PSOE Mayor Gaspar Miras. The UIDM and PSOE parties gained 6 seats each each in the election, although UIDM polled marginally more votes (a difference of only 26).
Sr Miras will be Deputy Mayor, and agreement was also reached on the management of the various council departments as follows:
UIDM
Alcaldia (Mayor’s office), Culture, Historical Heritage, Puerto de Mazarrón, Personnel, Commerce and Consumer Issues, Youth, Archives and Libraries, Education, Services, Parks and Gardens, Transport, Senior citizens, Urban Quality, ICT (Information technology), Innovation and European Projects, Animal Welfare, Fisheries and Citizen Participation.
PSOE
Urban Planning (Urbanismo), Infrastructures, Finance, Contracting, Sports, Fiestas, Social Policy, Equality, Environment and Natural Environment, Districts, Rural Development, Agriculture, Tourism, Coastal Services, Camposol, International Relations, Police, Civil Protection and SEM (Emergency procedures), Municipal Heritage, Health, Employment, Training and Local Development.
It is anticipated that Silvana Buxton of the PSOE will continue as Councillor for Camposol and International Relations.
The UIDM and PSOE will have a majority of 12 out of the 21 councilors, while in opposition will be the Popular Party (PP), with 8 councillors, and Vox with 1 seat.
