Los Alcázares writers' group is looking for new members
Beginners and experienced writers are welcome at a first coffee morning

A new writers' group is being set up in Los Alcázares, and everyone from complete beginners to experienced scribblers is invited to get involved.
The group will meet once a month to swap ideas, encourage one another and help each other grow as writers, whether they prefer stories, poetry, memoir or any other kind of creative work. People of all ages and abilities are welcome.
It's the brainchild of David Lees, who lives in Los Alcázares and describes himself as completely new to writing. He'd been searching for a hobby that would give his brain a workout, and as he pointed out, exercising your legs is easy because you simply go for a walk, while exercising your mind is a different challenge altogether.
The answer came from his wife, who suggested he write his autobiography on the grounds that he already has a timeline, a storyboard and plenty of characters waiting to appear. He joked that his conversations these days often sound like a sketch from The Two Ronnies, with two men chatting away in a bar, and his moral to the story is that "if you don’t use it, you lose it".
According to David, vocabulary tends to shrink as we get older, and writing sends us hunting for old phrases that bring old stories flooding back. That means reliving the sad memories along with the happy ones, but as he explained, they're all part of who we are.
The first meeting will be a coffee morning on Wednesday November 4 at 11am at Parking Café, near the 525 hotel next to Río Nalón in Los Alcázares. David is concentrating on Los Alcázares for now but is open to suggestions for future meeting places, depending on where interested writers are coming from.
Anyone who'd like to come along or find out more can email David on davidlees968@gmail.com.
