How to get a Covid passport
Covid passports are being issued by health departments in each individual autonomous region in Spain: this is how you can get yours
The European Digital Covid Certificate, also known as the Covid passport, came into force on July 1, to allow free travel to those who have been vaccinated.
The document, which can be downloaded free of charge, certifies whether someone has been vaccinated or has had a recent test confirming a negative result.
And as coronavirus cases continue to rise in Spain, places such as Murcia and the Valencia region have implemented the passport to gain entry to certain hospitality and leisure venues, and for hospital and elderly nursing home visits.
How to obtain an EU Covid certificate
In Spain, as healthcare is transferred directly to the autonomous communities, individual health departments are responsible for distributing the certificate, in coordination with the Ministry of Health.
This means the Covid certificate can be download onto a mobile device through regional health apps or via the Ministry of Health website.

Dowloading the EU Covid Certificate
When accessing the corresponding application and requesting the passport, you will be asked whether you are requesting it because you have been vaccinated, because you have recovered from the virus or because you have received a recent negative test result.
The Covid-19-related medical history data will then normally be displayed along with a QR code, which is the code that will be scanned at airports and other checkpoints.
It is best to download the certificate in PDF format and save it on a mobile device or print it off to have it in physical format. Alternatively, take a screenshot of the QR code and store it in JPG format.
