DANA flood disaster collection points in the Region of Murcia
From Águilas to Fortuna, communities are rallying to support the Valencian Community
Last week, the Region of Murcia witnessed the devastating impact of the DANA storm, which brought torrential rains and severe flooding to neighbouring communities, particularly in Valencia.
In response to the crisis, the Region of Murcia has come together to provide aid and support to those affected, with various collection points set up across the Region to gather essential supplies.
From Águilas to Fortuna, the community has rallied together to show solidarity with those in need, demonstrating the true spirit of Murcian solidarity.
Águilas
In Águilas, a collection point has been established at the Adolfo Suárez fairgrounds, where donations of water, boots, plastic gloves, masks, household cleaning products and non-perishable food, among other essential items, are being accepted.
Food for people with coeliac disease and other intolerances is in particularly high demand, according to the Town Hall.
The point is open from 9am to 2pm and again from 5pm to 8pm until November 10, with the possibility of extending hours based on the authorities' instructions.
Alhama de Murcia
In Alhama de Murcia, the local Civil Protection office has become a hub for collecting clothing and basic products, including non-perishable food and water.
Donations can be dropped off throughout the week between 7pm and 10pm, with the Town Council encouraging residents to keep an eye on social media for updates on extended hours.
Jumilla
Meanwhile, Cáritas Jumilla has set up a collection and storage point at the Parish of San Juan Bautista, where donations of milk, water, non-perishable foods (canned tuna, preserves, bread, powdered milk, cereals) and personal and household hygiene products (especially diapers and sanitary pads) are being accepted.
The Jumilla Town Council has stressed that only necessary items will be accepted, so please refrain from dropping off used clothing.
The drop-off point will be open between 5pm and 8pm, Monday-Friday.
Volunteers are also welcome to help with the reception, classification and packaging of products. Anyone interested in joining the cause can contact Cáritas Jumilla on number 686 589 676.
Fortuna
In Fortuna, the Town Council has made the Reina Sofía Centre's Assembly Hall available for the collection of basic non-perishable foodstuffs, water, milk, nappies and blankets.
Donations can be dropped off until Friday November 8, between 5pm and 7pm.
