Which shops and supermarkets are open in the Region of Murcia this August 15 bank holiday?
Find out which establishments will be closing this Friday, the feast day of Our Lady of the Assumption and a national holiday in Spain

This Friday August 15 marks the Feast of Our Lady of the Assumption, a public holiday across Spain, including the Region of Murcia. It is one of the key dates of the summer, a day when holidays begin for some and end for others, while those staying home often take advantage of the long weekend to relax or run errands.
Although it is an official non-working day in the Region of Murcia, some establishments and large stores will still open their doors to customers.
When it comes to shopping centres, most will remain closed on August 15.
Nueva Condomina, Thader and La Noria Outlet in Murcia will only have their food courts open, as will Parque Almenara in Lorca. However, Dos Mares in San Javier and Espacio Mediterráneo in Cartagena, which trade all year round, will open their stores as usual.
Some major retailers will close entirely. El Corte Inglés and Ikea will not open on the August 15 holiday.
Supermarkets tend to operate differently on this date. Many open only in busy coastal areas, while inland locations often remain closed. For example, Mercadona will shut its doors in cities such as Murcia and Lorca, but stores in Los Alcázares and Cabo de Palos will welcome customers from 9am until 10pm.
Carrefour’s opening hours will depend on the type of store, whether Express, Market or hypermarket. DIA and Alcampo also operate under different formats and their Sunday and holiday schedules vary, so best to check the webistes.
Lidl stores will follow mixed schedules. Some will remain closed, while others will open with regular hours from 10am to 10pm or with reduced hours from 10am to 3pm.
For anyone planning a supermarket trip this Friday August 15, the safest option is to check the store locator on each company’s official website to confirm whether your local branch will be open or closed.
