US man arrested for not paying 16,000-euro hotel bill in Ibiza
The American man was later arrested on fraud charges
The National Police in Spain’s Ibiza have arrested a 58-year-old US citizen as the alleged perpetrator of fraud.
The individual had stayed between March to the end of August in a well-known hotel on the island.
At the end of the stay the man decided to leave without paying the bill, which amounted to more than 16,000 euros.
The guest left the hotel every morning wearing sports clothes and carrying his sports bag.
On the day of his departure, the man did exactly the same thing so as not to arouse any suspicion among the employees.
The legal representative of the hotel establishment filed a complaint with the Ibiza Police Station when they discovered that the guest had left the hotel and had left a large amount of money unpaid.
From that moment on, work began to fully identify and locate the perpetrator of the crime.
The detainee was located by the specialised group (UDEV) of the National Police before he left the island.
He had been staying at another hotel in the area of ses Figueretes, in the municipality of Eivissa.
The detainee has been placed at the disposal of the investigating court on duty.
