Torrevieja bus changes end hospital transfer for lines 1 and 2
From Monday November 2, passengers from five southern areas will be able to reach the city centre on one bus
Passengers on Torrevieja’s urban bus lines 1 and 2 will no longer need to change at the University Hospital to reach the city centre from Monday November 2.The Ayuntamiento’s transport department is introducing changes to lines 1, 2 and 8. Lines 1 and 2 will still stop at the hospital, but will then continue to Avenida Doctor Gregorio Marañón, number 7, the final stop towards the centre.
That means residents of Los Altos, Punta Prima, Rocío del Mar, Los Balcones and Lago Jardín will be able to complete their journey on the same bus.
Line 1 will connect Los Altos, Punta Prima and Rocío del Mar directly with the city centre, while keeping its service to the University Hospital.
The first departure from Gregorio Marañón will be at 6.45am. From Rocío del Mar, at the stop on Calle Mar Rizada, the first bus will leave at 7am. The last service from both ends will be at 10.10pm.
Line 2 restores old route
Line 2 will also run directly from Los Balcones and Lago Jardín to the city centre, ending at Gregorio Marañón without a change at the hospital.
It will also return to its previous route along Avenida de la Asunción and Avenida de Torrevieja.
The first departure from Los Balcones, at the stop on Avenida de Dénia, will be at 6.45am. From Gregorio Marañón, the first bus will leave at 7am. The last buses from both ends will run at 10.30pm.
Line 8 changes for La Mata
Line 8, which links the city centre with La Mata along the coast, will also change because of redevelopment work on Paseo de Los Locos. The Ayuntamiento says the new route will be permanent and will remain once the work is completed.
Buses towards La Mata will travel along Avenida de la Purísima and Calle Goleta, Mar Báltico and Jacinto Benavente, before continuing along Avenida Alfredo Nobel towards Cabo Cervera and La Mata.
The La Mata terminus will be at Calle Mayor, number 59.
Towards central Torrevieja, buses will run along Calle Echegaray and Calle Finlandia, Avenida de Habaneras and Calle Antonio Machado, next to the bus station, before continuing along Avenida de Diego Ramírez to Gregorio Marañón.
The Ayuntamiento advises passengers to check routes, timetables and stops before travelling, especially during the first few days of the changes.
