ARCHIVED - Today is the first day of autumn in Spain. How long will it last and when do clocks go back?
Today Friday September 23 is the autumn equinox and marks the start of autumn in Spain

Autumn officially begins today, Friday September 23, 2022, signalling the end of summer. The autumn season will last for exactly 89.86 days, ending on December 21, which is the winter solstice when winter comes.
By convention, the beginning of autumn arrives when the centre of the Sun, as seen from the Earth, “crosses the celestial equator in its apparent movement towards the south”, according to Spain’s National Astronomical Observatory. For that reason, September 23 is also the autumn equinox, when the tropic of cancer receives 12 hours of sunlight and 12 hours of darkness. In other words, night and day are the same length today.
When autumn begins in Spain and the rest of the northern hemisphere, it is actually the start of spring in the southern hemisphere. The beginning of autumn, starting on the September equinox, is also the time of the year when the days get shorter fastest.
When do clocks go back in Spain 2022?
The end of Daylight Savings Time in Spain in 2022 is at the end of October, and clocks will go back an hour on Sunday October 30. Specifically, at 3am Central European Time (CET), you will have to put the clocks back to 2am. In the Canary Islands, which works on Greenwich Mean Time (GMT), 2am will become 1am.
