The best nudist beaches in the Region of Murcia
Go bare by the sea at these peaceful Costa Cálida coves
You may have done it already, or maybe you’re just curious, but at some point most people have wondered what it would be like to spend a day at the beach with nothing but the sea breeze and sunshine.
For many in the Region of Murcia, nudism is not just a novelty but a way of life that embraces nature, calm and a sense of freedom. And luckily, there are plenty of beaches where you can enjoy it.
According to the official Murcia Tourist Office, there are several beaches along the Costa Cálida where nudism is officially allowed. The largest number are found in the towns of Mazarrón and Cartagena, with Águilas also offering a couple of quiet scenic spots.
Most of these are small or hidden beaches that feel far from the crowds and closer to nature.
Nudist beaches in Cartagena
El Portús is one of the most well-known naturist beaches in the area. Located just eleven kilometres from Cartagena, this 100 metre beach with sand and gravel is classed as urban, which means it can attract more people, especially in summer. It’s easy to reach by bus and sits next to Cala Morena, which has a naturist campsite.
Cala Morena is a smaller and quieter cove located next to El Portús. It’s less well known and therefore less crowded, though it still sees a fair number of visitors due to its location. The beach is narrow and unfortunately doesn’t have accessibility features.
For a more natural setting, Calblanque Beach inside the protected Calblanque Regional Park is a peaceful and beautiful option. This beach stretches 300 metres and is around 40 metres wide, with golden sand and a relaxed atmosphere. While it is not a secret, it rarely feels crowded and offers stunning views in a protected natural landscape.
Naturist spots in Mazarrón
Mazarrón is a top destination for naturists and even has the honour of being home to Spain’s first officially recognised nudist beach; Cueva de Lobos in Bolnuevo earned this title more than 30 years ago. The beach is completely unspoiled and has no services, so you will need to bring everything you need for the day. It measures around 90 metres and draws a moderate number of visitors.
Playa del Barranco Ancho is another nearby beach with a similar wild feel. It’s around 80 metres long with sand and gravel, and is usually quiet and uncrowded.
For those looking for real peace and quiet, Hondón del Fondo is a hidden cove that is not easy to reach but well worth the effort. Also known as Playa del Jondo or Playa del Fondo, this 100 metre beach offers plenty of space to relax. With hardly any visitors, it is the ideal spot for sunbathing and swimming in complete tranquillity.
Other options in the Mazarrón area include Cala Desnuda, a small and protected beach just 30 metres long with soft grey sand.
Playa de la Grúa offers lovely views and very few people. At 85 metres long, it’s a quiet place to enjoy the sun and sea.
Cala de Leño in Bolnuevo is another calm beach that is made up of gravel and stretches for 100 metres.
Where to go nude in Águilas
Águilas has two beaches where nudism is officially permitted. Playa del Charco is a natural golden sand beach that is 160 metres long and usually only moderately busy. It’s the only beach in Águilas where nudism has long been officially recognised and is a favourite with those seeking peace and open space.
El Rafal Beach sits between the coves of El Charco and Rambla Elena and has been a designated naturist beach since 2016. The local council decided to formally open the area to nudism because, in their words, "it is a beach where naturism has historically been practiced, and although it has very easy access, it is not visible from any main road."
So whether you are a seasoned naturist or just looking to try something different, the Region of Murcia has a great selection of quiet and welcoming beaches where you can enjoy the Mediterranean in the most natural way possible.
