Great beach locations in Murcia to take your first dip of the year!
Take your pick from the huge choice of beach locations and activities in the Costa Cálida
With the weather warming up after a distinctly grim first three weeks of March, and the Easter holidays just around the corner, many of us are beginning to become impatient for our first swim in the sea of 2025, and the Region of Murcia tourist board whets our appetite with a selection of wonderful spots on the Costa Cálida to make that first dip a special one!
With apologies to the hardy souls who have been enjoying their daily swim throughout the winter, for most murcianos the year doesn’t really feel as though it’s begun until they’ve felt the sea salt on their skin, even if it’s with a bracing show of bravado on 1st January, but for the majority, including those who flock to the coast during Semana Santa, it is in spring that the first tolerable opportunity comes along, so take a look at these options and dig our your swimwear!
The Mar Menor – something of a classic for a dip in April, with the water temperature usually a couple of degrees warmer than in the Mediterranean and hardly any waves to put you off if you prefer to get into the water gently!
However, the more adventurous will probably be looking elsewhere, so the tourist board suggests the following…
Calblanque: Unspoilt natural surroundings and crystal-clear water. Click here to see more.
Bolnuevo (Mazarrón): A huge swathe of golden sand and normally only moderate waves to the west of Puerto de Mazarrón.
La Azohía: The village is quiet for most of the year although packed with holidaymakers in summer, and in spring it comes to life as the Easter holidays draw people to the beaches of San Ginés and La Chapineta. The area is famed for the clarity of the water and is home to numerous dive centres.
Cabo de Palos: Again, perfect for divers and snorkelers as they explore some of the finest underwater landscapes around the Spanish costas!
Of course, there are plenty of other ways to enjoy the beach and work up a little body heat to make the first dip even more appetising – why not try some of these this spring?
Paddle surf and kayak: Hop on a board or jump in a kayak and enjoy being on the water rather than in it!
Sailing: Sailing and wáter sports clubs begin to organize classes and competitions all along the Costa Cálida at this time of year!
Mud bathing in San Pedro del Pinatar: A great way to start of the season with reinvigorated skin!
Horse-riding in Calblanque: Feel the sea breeze as you gallop through the dunes in the regional park of Calbanque!
So, when the beaches of the Costa Cálida beckon, don’t put it off any longer – with so many options to choose from it’s time to take the plunge – both figuratively and literally!
