Surge in new construction at El Valle Golf Resort signals property revival in Murcia
It’s starting to look like the heady days of the pre-2008 property boom in Murcia, with renewed interest in developing residential and leisure facilities at many resorts

The resurgence of resort tourism and property construction in the Region of Murcia is becoming increasingly evident with the arrival of renewed interest in developing land at the El Valle Golf Resort urbanisation.
Murcia City Council is poised to approve planning permission for a development of over a hundred homes at the resort, targeting a specific international clientele. El Valle Golf Resort is set to welcome new construction efforts by an Alicante-based developer. Plans include phased construction over a 20,000-square-metre plot, beginning with six villas and 38 apartments, followed by additional housing options.
Antonio Navarro, Murcia’s Councillor for Urban Planning, Huerta and Environment, highlighted the project’s significance: “This development will be located in an already consolidated high-standard residential area, given the quality of the buildings in the vicinity.”
Interest in residential tourism had waned following the so-called financial crisis that began in 2008, a worldwide downturn that was felt especially hard in Murcia due to the excessive development.
However, the market has been regaining momentum since the end of the pandemic, with a notable increase in property development activity. The nearby Altaona urbanisation, formerly Mosa Trajectum, has seen the approval of around 100 licences in the past five years. Additionally, the Murcia City Council has expressed its intention to revive the Sierra Golf resort in Finca Escobar, within the village of Jerónimo y Avileses.
Alicante-based company Moorstyle España, commercially known as Urmosa, has committed to developing the remaining 92 plots of Sierra Golf, a project that includes up to 3,000 homes, a hotel, and additional facilities. While Urmosa obtained initial permits for 311 homes and key infrastructure work, progress on this front remains slow, with limited updates on their official website.
Mayor of Murcia city, José Ballesta, underlined the strategic importance of the central Murcia area, citing its proximity to the motorway and the airport: “Investment is being encouraged by these factors, and we are seeing a resurgence of interest, particularly from British and Dutch buyers.”
The reactivation of the Corvera resort further underscores this trend, benefiting from increased business activity. Such investments have influenced municipal planning decisions, including the recent rejection of a proposed biogas and biofertiliser plant in Baños y Mendigo.
The Council issued an unfavourable report, arguing that the facility’s proximity to residential developments, such as the newly approved project, would deter further growth.
“Clearly, this plant would be a disincentive to the development of the area,” Navarro remarked.
With increasing interest from developers and strategic municipal backing, Murcia appears to be on the cusp of a tourism and residential boom. The return of cranes to El Valle and other resort areas suggests a renewed confidence in the sector, paving the way for sustainable and high-quality residential tourism development in the region.
