The Region of Murcia is in for another few days of intense September heat before temperatures take a sharp tumble on Thursday, with the mercury expected to fall by around 7 degrees in Murcia city compared with Wednesday.

 

The hottest conditions will be inland, particularly around the Segura Valley, while coastal areas will be somewhat less extreme. AEMET is forecasting temperatures of up to 39°C in Murcia city on Tuesday, with the heat continuing through Wednesday before the big change arrives.

 

The week gets off to a very hot start, with clear skies across much of the Region and temperatures climbing rapidly during the day.

 

Murcia city is expected to reach 38°C, while temperatures will be slightly lower along the coast. The heat will be accompanied by mostly clear skies and light winds, although an easterly breeze will become more noticeable during the afternoon.

 

Tuesday looks set to be the hottest day of the week, with temperatures rising to around 39°C in Murcia city and similarly high temperatures expected in inland parts of the Region.

 

The skies will remain largely clear, although some cloud will develop later in the day. Winds will remain generally light to moderate, with an easterly component helping to bring slightly fresher conditions to the coast.

 

The heat will still be firmly in place on Wednesday, with Murcia city forecast to reach 38°C, but this will be the final day of the particularly hot spell.

 

Cloud will increase during the day and there is a significant chance of thunderstorms later in the afternoon, with AEMET currently putting the probability of rain at 90% for this period in Murcia city. The possibility of storms means conditions could become unsettled very quickly despite the high temperatures.

 

A dramatic change arrives on Thursday as temperatures plunge across the Region, with Murcia city expected to reach just 31°C, around 7 degrees cooler than the previous day.

 

The day will be considerably cloudier, with a 75% chance of rain inland during the morning and lighter showers possible later. The change will also bring much higher humidity, making Thursday feel very different from the hot and dry conditions at the start of the week.

 

Although temperatures will drop sharply, this isn't the end of summer in the Region of Murcia, with AEMET forecasting temperatures to climb back to around 32-33°C over the following days.
