Several Murcia highways renamed as Ministry begins major update
Work started last night to rename roads surrounding the city, with changes expected over the next two months

The changes, which officially came into effect today, Wednesday October 15, follow a project approved in March 2025 to include the newly built Arco Noroeste de Murcia within the A-30 motorway. The western section of the ring road will now be called the MU-33, while the northern access route becomes the MU-32.
Starting last night, Tuesday October 14, the Ministry began the first phase of the process, replacing kilometre markers on affected roads. Over the next two months, further works will continue, updating motorway portals, banners, arrow and side signs across both state and locally owned roads.
Óscar Puente’s department confirmed that the works will not affect traffic. According to the Ministry, the name changes are necessary “for reasons of functionality and continuity” within the state highway system.
Key updates include:
- The Arco Noroeste sections (A, B, and C once completed) will now form part of the A-30 motorway linking Albacete and Cartagena.
- The MU-30 between the A-7 junction and MU-31 will be included in the A-30.
- The MU-31 itself, connecting the Western Industrial Park with Puerto de la Cadena, will also become part of the A-30.
- The section of the A-30 between the Northwest Arc junction (km 119.4) and the A-7 (km 135) will be renamed MU-32.
- The A-30 section between the A-7 junction (km 137.750) and the current MU-31 junction (km 150.7) will become the MU-33.
In total, 408 signs will be modified, with 308 belonging to the state and 100 to municipal and regional authorities. A further 27 road signs will be replaced to ensure clear continuity along the A-30 and surrounding routes.
The Ministry said that while signage work will be ongoing for several weeks, the new names are already operational for all official purposes, including communications, road safety, and traffic management.
