Pilar de la Horadada calls for AP-7 toll to be removed after another price increase
The mayor says the latest rise makes trips to Alicante very expensive and adds pressure to other local roads

The mayor of Pilar de la Horadada has spoken out after the latest rise in AP‑7 tolls, calling for the charge to be removed completely.
In December 2025, the Council of Ministers approved the permanent removal of the toll on the section of the AP‑7 that acts as Alicante’s ring road, between Monforte del Cid and El Campello. But Pilar de la Horadada is still paying, and Mayor José María Pérez says the latest price hike is unfair.
“Before, for light vehicles like motorcycles, cars, minibuses, and vans, the high-season toll was under €5. Now it’s €5.10,” Pérez said. “In low season it’s €2.85.”
High season runs from June to September, and also for 17 days from the Friday before Easter until the following Sunday.
Pérez points out the impact on everyday life. “Going to Alicante now costs €20.40, that’s a lot of money for just 17 kilometres.”
He has also warned that emergencies towards Torrevieja Hospital are becoming more complicated, as many residents take the N‑332 to avoid the toll. This all creates extra pressure on Torrevieja and San Miguel de Salinas.
The town council is working with Torrevieja and San Miguel de Salinas to demand the toll be lifted. Pérez added that Pilar de la Horadada has contacted the Ministry of Roads “to make sure residents, tourists, and workers aren’t affected by this increase or the toll itself.”
He added, “This toll is an injustice for our town. The concession runs until 2048, and it’s one of the sections that hurts locals the most.”
Let’s see if this pressure leads to them finally removing the toll.
