Mojacar council supporting convenio especial healthcare payment scheme for foreign nationals
An arrangement with the Andalusian public health service means foreign residents who have lived in the Spanish region for at least a year will be able to sign up for healthcare
European or British nationals who lost their right to public healthcare in Spain due to Brexit or other situations and citizens from other countries not eligible for free healthcare here can still have access to the public healthcare system in the Andalucía region as there is an agreement in place so they can pay for basic GP and medical services under the convenio especial.
Mojacar council has published a leaflet with details of the scheme, which expats who are registered on a ‘padrón’ (residents register) anywhere in Andalusia and can prove that they have lived here for at least a year can apply to join.
For 60 euros a month for those aged under 65 or 157 euros a month for anyone over 65, expats will receive basic healthcare services and emergency medical transport.
Those interested can book an appointment with the healthcare social worker at their nearest health centre via the numbers below to learn more about the scheme but are advised to take an interpreter unless they speak fluent Spanish.
