Mercadona, Aldi, Carrefour... Opening hours across Spain this Constitution long weekend
Spain’s favourite supermarket Mercadona has also released its special Christmas opening hours
The festive season is upon us, and with it comes the highly anticipated December long weekend. As Spain celebrates Constitution Day on Friday December 6 and the Day of the Immaculate Conception on Sunday December 8 (observed on Monday December 9 in some regions), many of us are looking forward to a well-deserved break.
But before you head out to stock up on holiday treats and essentials, it's important to check the opening hours of your favourite supermarkets.
Mercadona, Aldi, Carrefour and all the usual favourites have released their special hours for the long weekend, so you can plan your shopping trip accordingly.
As an added bonus, Mercadona has just released its opening hours over Christmas and New Year. More details below but first, here are the supermarket schedules this Constitution bank holiday weekend:
Mercadona
The Valencian supermarket chain will remain closed on Friday December 6 and, as always, on Sunday December 8 (Mercadona always closes on Sundays).
Stores across the country will open between 9am and 9.30pm on Saturday December 7.
Monday December 9 is a public holiday in several autonomous communities including Andalucía and Murcia. As a result, Mercadona will close in certain regions, so it’s best to check the website before venturing out.
Carrefour
The opening hours of Carrefour supermarkets vary greatly depending on the type of store (Carrefour 24 hours, Carrefour Market etc.) and its location. For this reason, on Friday December 6, some of its establishments will open their doors , while others will remain closed. Therefore, it is best to check their opening hours before going to the store using their search engine.
Aldi
The German supermarket chain is usually open every day from 9am to 9pm, including public holidays. However, this Friday, some of its stores may open with reduced hours. You can check the opening hours of your nearest store before going with this search engine.
Lidl
Lidl, like Aldi, usually opens its stores every day, including holidays, from 9am to 9pm. But again, the schedules could vary this weekend so shoppers should consult the website.
Dia
Dia supermarkets are also usually open on Sundays and public holidays, but this coming Friday some of their stores will close early at 3pm. You can check the opening hours of your nearest store here.
El Corte Inglés
El Corte Inglés supermarkets will be open during their usual hours of 9am to 9pm on December 6.
Alcampo
Alcampo supermarkets may have very different opening hours depending on their location. We recommend that you check the opening hours of your nearest store in their search engine before heading out.
Mercadona’s Christmas schedule
With Christmas just around the corner, Mercadona has announced its special holiday schedule to ensure you can stock up on all your festive favourites. As Christmas Day and New Year's Day are national holidays in Spain, Mercadona's opening hours will be affected.
To make the most of your holiday shopping, Mercadona will be open on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve, albeit with reduced hours. Here are the details:
- Christmas Eve (Tuesday December 24): 9am to 7pm.
- Christmas Day (Wednesday December 25): Closed all day.
- New Year's Eve (Tuesday December 31): 9am to 7pm.
- New Year's Day (Wednesday January 1): Closed all day.
