Mazarron Police thwart three recent attempted squatter invasions including Camposol
Local Police report 3 attempted squatter incursions in recent days including incidents on the Camposol urbanisation
Mazarrón Local Police attended three attempts of illegal occupation of properties in the municipality in the last few days, all of which were thwarted as a result of neighbours acting quickly to alert the authorities.
Police report, “Several people were identified who would have entered houses or properties illegally and were investigated for an alleged offence of usurpation of real estate.
“The Mazarrón Council, through the Services Department, has proceeded to close or blockade the accesses of those properties in which the owner could not be located immediately.
“Citizen Collaboration is essential for the satisfactory resolution of these incidents, and it is very important that they communicate through the Emergency telephone number 112 any possible occupation attempt they detect.”
Squatting is a widespread problem and the Regional Government of Murcia has passed laws making it easier for illegal squatters to be evicted, but fast action is essential in reporting a squatter incident. With the first 48 hours being crucial, the emergency telephone number 112 should be used in the first instance.
An anonymous reporting channel has also been set up by phone on 0034 968 377 000 and email alertaokupa@carm.es where full information should be supplied in Spanish to identify the home and its location, such as the address of the property (number, street, floor, urbanisation etc.) and the municipality in which the property is located.
The Regional Authority has also published two information booklets about the matter one giving information on how to deal with a squatter incursion and the other gives steps that can be taken to prevent it happening in the first place.
Mazarrón Council has also passed a bylaw giving community of owners more power to act where a property has been occupied in their community.
