May 9-12 La Grajuela fiestas in honour of the Virgin of Fatima
The San Javier town will celebrate well into May with dances, processions food tastings and more
The charming village of La Grajuela, just two kilometres from the town of San Javier, has an action-packed programme of events for all the family during the 2024 fiestas in honour of its patron saint, the Virgin of Fátima.
The celebrations kick off on April 30 and really get going with parties, food tastings and more over the weekend of May 9-12.
Festival highlights
Tuesday April 30: Get into the swing of things with the melodious strains of Los Mayos, performed by the Coros y Danzas del Mar Menor ensemble from San Javier.
Thursday May 9: Groove to the talents of seniors participating in the ‘Got-Talent’ contest, exclusively for the elders.
Saturday May 11: Tantalise those taste buds with an "old-fashioned" sausage extravaganza beginning at 8.30am, followed by a sumptuous lunch and BBQ.
Enjoy children's games and a delightful Café-Theatre performance in the afternoon.
Top off the night with the iconic Procession of the Virgin of Fátima at 9pm and hilarious antics from ‘El Humor de los Quillos’ afterwards.
Sunday May 12: Start off the morning with the scenic 8 kilometre ‘Walk through La Grajuela with Santos’, stopping by the Julio Museum.
Later, reunite with fellow neighbours for a colossal paella feast at 2pm.
Pay homage to the Virgin of Fátima during a moving Mass, enlivened by none other than the Coros y Danzas del Mar Menor choir.
The Councillor for Festivals, Alba Sánchez, highlighted the value of tradition in the La Grajuela Festival and the ability “to bring together and attract neighbours, even those who no longer live there,” in what has now become a “very familiar” weekend.For more local news, events and visiting information go to the home page of San Javier Today

The municipality of San Javier has three main offices giving tourist information to visitors, as well as two information points. The tourist offices are located in Santiago de la Ribera, on the ground floor of the town hall in San Javier and at the start of La Manga. There is a tourist information point located in the San Javier Airport, as well as one at kilometre 12-13 of La Manga del Mar Menor.
Due to its location on the fringes of the Mar Menor and Mediterranean, San Javier has a period of intense summer tourism activity during the peak summer months, although it is popular with retirees of all nationalities out of peak season.
Tickets for the annual San Javier Jazz Festival can be purchased at the Festival office in San Javier Town Hall, Plaza de España.
