If you have recently stocked up on sliced meats, it’s worth checking your fridge. Spain’s food safety watchdog, AESAN, has widened its alert after detecting Listeria monocytogenes, a potentially harmful bacteria, not just in the chopped ham from the Nuestra Alacena brand, but in several other products from the same maker.

 

Now included are new batches of Nuestra Alacena’s chopped thin slices (in 150g cans) with expiry dates of 17 and 18 November 2025. Also affected are Serrano’s truffled turkey with pistachios, various mortadella and chopped turkey from the La Tabla brand, as well as Maxi turkey and Maxi York products - all with expiry dates close to mid-November 2025.

 

AESAN has shared this information quickly with regional authorities across many parts of Spain to ensure these products are pulled from supermarket shelves immediately. They’re urging people who bought these items not to eat them, and if anyone experiences symptoms like vomiting, diarrhoea, or fever after eating them, they should get medical help right away.

 

Pregnant women, in particular, are advised to be extra cautious, as Listeria can be especially dangerous during pregnancy. AESAN also highlights the importance of avoiding cross-contamination in the kitchen to keep other foods safe.

 

The takeaway? It’s a good idea to double-check what’s in your fridge and, if in doubt, toss any of these products safely.
