Fuente Álamo cancels speed track contract as deadline looms
Yet another bump in the road for the ill-fated motorcycle racing track

The decision comes after the joint venture CHM Obras e Infraestructuras and Etosa Obras y Servicios Building failed to meet key deadlines, further delaying a project that has been plagued with issues for nearly two decades.
The contract, awarded in November 2024 for €833,938, required the successful bidder to clear the site, repair the 3,850-metre track, upgrade the pit lane, replace the ‘pianos’ to improve safety and install new signage.
However, municipal reports indicate that the contractor did not sign the required documents to begin work on December 21, 2024 and failed to provide an acceptable justification for the delay. Disputes over the scope and cost of the project reportedly contributed to the breakdown.
This latest development puts the entire project at risk, as Fuente Álamo must complete the works by June 30, 2025 to retain a €200,000 regional subsidy. If the joint venture contests the termination, the case will be referred to the Legal Council of the Region, potentially causing further delays. A new public tender will need to be launched to find another contractor.
Funding for the renovations comes from a combination of sources, including a budget surplus from 2023. However, municipal sources warn that these funds will not roll over into the 2025 budget, meaning any further delays could threaten the entire project’s financing.
The Los Milanos track has been abandoned for over a decade due to surface defects, and in recent years, it has become notorious for illegal gatherings. On New Year's Eve 2023, the site hosted an unauthorised rave attended by thousands of people, causing extensive damage.
The Town Council later suspended the track’s management contract with the Fuente Álamo Moto Club and has stated that it will not reinstate the agreement until renovations are complete.
Once resurfacing is finished, additional repairs will be required to address vandalism and graffiti left behind by partygoers. Despite the setbacks, local officials remain hopeful that a new contractor can be found quickly to ensure the track is finally brought back into use.
