For many years considered an endangered species on the Camposol urbanisation, the Street Sweeper was seldom seen, apart from a quiet corner of A Sector where it left its hidden lair briefly 3 or 4 times a year to make a tour of a handful of streets. The rest of the urbanisation only saw the machine for around 2 weeks once every 4 years which coincided with the run-in to the municipal elections, only for it to vanish again once the votes were cast.
However, following changes at “Bahía de Mazarrón Ingeniería Urbana”, the concern that operates the sweepers along with refuse collection and other maintenance in the municipality, the Street Sweeper has been a common sight for the last few months around the commercial centres and along the dual carriage way that runs through the urbanisation. Its task has been made easier recently by the clearance of weeds and vegetation on public roads by a crew from the same concern.
No doubt residents and homeowners will hope the sweeper remains a common sight after next year’s municipal elections!
