Christmas is all around in San Pedro del Pinatar
Thousands gathered in the town centre as San Pedro del Pinatar celebrated the start of the festive season in style

Christmas spirit arrived in San Pedro del Pinatar on December 5 when thousands gathered in the Plaza de la Constitución to watch the festive season officially kick off. This year, like every year recently, the town felt even more festive with more lights and an even bigger show.
The people of San Pedro del Pinatar huddled together in the main square, parents making sure their kids could see. The show started with a performance by José Blaya, whose song ‘Ya huele a Navidad’ (Christmas is in the Air) got everyone in the mood. Soon after, Mayor Pedro Javier Sánchez, joined by Ainara Ortega, this year’s Christmas Star, led the countdown to the big moment. When the lights came on people cheered and clapped. The new carousel, also decorated with fairy lights, really added to the Christmas atmosphere.

What really surprised people was the fireworks show that followed. And even though it was a balmy December evening on the Costa Cálida, a sudden snowfall during the event lit up the children’s faces!
The evening continued in the special events area set up just off the main square. Mickey Mouse and friends put on a show, the first of many as the area will stay open over the Christmas period. There will be daily shows and singalongs. In the same area a Christmas Grotto has been set up where Santa and the royal pages will make their appearances over the coming days.
San Pedro del Pinatar’s nativity scene unveiled
The night finished with a few songs by the parish choir JMJ before the official opening of the town’s belén, the nativity scene. Belenes Horadada created it and it includes some new pieces that represent San Pedro del Pinatar from the Plaza de la Constitución and the Church of San Pedro Apóstol to the traditional fishermen’s houses and the historic Torre Derribada. The nativity scene is as always the focal point of the town square.

The Plaza de la Constitución is where most of the events and activities will take place over Christmas until January 6. Don’t miss the Christmas Market set up around the square with everything from festive treats to artisan products that make perfect Christmas presents.
