ARCHIVED - Camposol bank robbery failed in primary aim as just 45 euros were stolen
The thieves entered the bank in the early hours after breaking the lock and tried to open the safe with a thermal lance
From reports emerging about the bank robbery in the early hours of last Tuesday (January 10), it seems three or four individuals with their faces covered broke the security lock on the door of the Camposol branch of Caixabank to gain access, setting off the alarm at central control.
Guardia Civil and Policia Local were quickly on the scene but the robbers had fled leaving the main target of their endeavors intact and taking only a consolation handful of coins amounting to around 45 euros.
The signs are the raiders came equipped to break into the bank vault, evidenced by the damage that was observed when the security authorities arrived, the investigating officers believe that the criminals used a thermal lance. A tool commonly used in demolition and locksmithing, since it can melt steel, penetrating practically any material due to the temperature it reaches.
Unfortunately for the criminals the bank safe was harder to penetrate than they anticipated and with the alarm going off and the knowledge that the security forces were probably on their way the robbers grabbed whatever they could, escaping with little more than pocket change, although the investigating authorities are treating it as a serious crime especially in view of the damage caused.
The bank robbery is the latest in a series of bank and cash machine thefts on the urbanisation in recent years.
