ARCHIVED - A New Year and a new bank raid on Camposol
Bank broken into on the Camposol urbanisation and this time the ATM is not the target
The Caixabank branch on the Camposol urbanisation in Mazarrón was broken yet again into on Tuesday night (January 10) and it is unclear what the motivation for robbery was. The ATM was left unscathed, but this latest raid follows a seemingly endless series of smash-and-grab raids on the urbanisation involving cash machines during recent years.
Camposol residents and visitors were again greeted by security tape cordoning off the last remaining Camposol bank on Wednesday morning after the nighttime raid. The same bank was the subject of an overnight robbery less than 18 months ago when the ATM machine was ripped out of the wall along with most of the front of the building and never seen again: this time the cash machine did not seem to be the target of the raid as the intruders entered the premises.
The litany of crimes against bank ATMs on the Camposol development has gone on unabated for some years with 3 machines being highjacked on the Commercial Centres on A and B sectors last year following similar crimes in 2020 and 2021.
Most of the crimes involve lorries with cranes attached ripping the cash machines out of the walls of the premises where they are installed, and they are usually double crimes as the lorries involved are also stolen.
