ARCHIVED - Camposol gardening groups meet new municipal contractor
Representatives of the Camposol gardening groups and Mazarrón Council meet with the Head of Services of the new corporate gardening contractor
Attending the meeting were Mazarrón Councillor for Camposol Silvana Buxton, Councillor for Public services Tomás Ureña and Councillor for Citizen Participation José María Moreno, accompanied by the council’s principal public services technician, contractor company STV Gestion’s Head of Services and representatives of Camposol gardening groups.
Following the award to services company STV Gestion SL of the 4-year-contract for municipality-wide parks and gardens cleaning and maintenance, the contract is valued at nearly 6 million euros, which includes many of the public cultivated areas in Camposol, representatives of the volunteer gardening groups met with the Head of Services of STV Gestion SL this week.
STV Gestion SL are a large regional company and have contracts with the regional governments of Murcia and Alicante and local councils including Torre Pacheco, Águilas and Fuente Álamo. T they also have contracts with developments including Mar Menor Golf Resort, La Torre, El Valle and Condado de Alhama.
Discussions took place regarding issues including palm pruning programmes, weed control, insect and processionary caterpillar control and it was agreed that the gardening groups would liaise with the Councillor for Camposol and the services technician to ensure that work is coordinated and that any incidents such as processionary caterpillar infestations can be reported to STV for prompt treatment.
The STV Head of Services said that he expected to have 3 teams arriving on Camposol in the next month to start the initial work and service rota planning. He was asked how the waste vegetation would be disposed of and if the garden waste skips would be used, and replied that the waste would be taken away by STV for disposal in one of their own facilities.
Other subjects covered included weeds and vegetation growing through pavements and kerbsides, and the council technician pointed out that these are covered by the street-sweeping contract with Bahia Ingenieria Urbana SL. The hedges that have been planted along the side of some roads in undeveloped areas tend to be on non-council owned land are therefore not included in the contract, so the gardening groups will continue with their maintenance.
