British woman, 90, starved to death on the Costa del Sol
The elderly expat was found alongside her deceased son, 63, in their Malaga home

The peaceful town of Alhaurín el Grande in Malaga has been rocked by the shocking discovery of two elderly British family members dead in their home. The deceased are a 63-year-old man and his 90-year-old mother. Police believe that the man died first and that his mother subsequently starved to death.
The expat family was receiving support from social services, who raised the alarm when they hadn’t heard from the Britons for several days.
The elderly woman’s son is understood to have been her registered carer but it has not been confirmed whether he had health problems himself.
When local police went to the house on Thursday February 13, which is a half-hour drive from the Costa del Sol resort of Fuengirola, they had to force their way into the property after knocking on the door several times.
The bodies will now undergo a post-mortem but a Guardia Civil spokesperson said that there is no suggestion of foul play and that both mother and son died from natural causes.
This case is disturbingly similar to another tragedy on the Costa Blanca last week, where the bodies of an 82-year-old man and a 74-year-old woman, both British, were found in their home in the popular expat community of La Marina in San Fulgencio.
According to Guardia Civil sources, the couple was living in a situation of “extreme vulnerability” and the local health services were actively monitoring their health and wellbeing. It was during a routine welfare check that the grim discovery was made by workers.
