Benidorm's Fancy Dress Party returns with costumes, music and 7,000 Brits in full swing
Europe’s biggest fancy dress celebration draws thousands for a week of fun, floats, and festivities
Benidorm is buzzing with excitement as the 31st edition of the Fancy Dress Party arrives, drawing an impressive crowd of 7,000 Brits among the 30,000 visitors enjoying a lively week in the city. What began as a small gathering at a local bar has blossomed into a massive, colourful spectacle filled with imaginative costumes, floats, music, and plenty of dancing.“It has become the benchmark festival in Europe,” says Jesús Carrobles, the Councilor for Citizen Security. He highlights that the event is mostly incident-free, and over 100 police officers are on duty to ensure the celebrations run smoothly in the bustling Rincón de Loix area. Local bars are joining in the fun too, with around 70 establishments taking part.
The parade of 15 vibrant floats, featuring dance groups, batucada drummers, and performers, energises the streets of Lepanto, Gerona, and Europa as the party continues into the early hours. Attendees flaunt everything from daisies and rock star costumes to hilarious political parodies, showing off creativity and good humour.
The event not only delights locals but also cements Benidorm’s reputation as one of Europe’s top party destinations, especially for British tourists who flood the city for this unique carnival atmosphere.
If you’re around, expect the streets to be alive with colour and rhythm, a true celebration of fun, friendship, and freedom.
