Alicante glows bright this Christmas with dazzling lights and festive delights
Experience Alicante’s vibrant holiday spirit through its stunning light displays, nativity scenes, and seasonal celebrations
Alicante is sparkling brighter than ever as the city lights up for Christmas, welcoming everyone to enjoy an unforgettable holiday season. The streets and squares are adorned with 2.6 million energy‑saving LED bulbs, illuminating over 130 locations, including Avenida de la Constitución where an impressive 18-metre Christmas tree stands alongside shimmering arches and decorative motifs. Plus, there are over 100 events and attractions across the city to explore and fill you with festive cheer.Wander from the bright avenues to iconic spots like Plaza de la Montañeta, Mar Square, and General Marvá promenade, where festive candy canes, garlands, and glowing trees add to the joyful atmosphere. Towering guardian angel figures, reaching 14 metres in height, are placed in key squares and roundabouts, announcing the arrival of Christmas with a heavenly touch.
For those who love tradition, Alicante offers monumental nativity scenes, including the giant set in Town Hall Square, a Guinness World Record holder, and charming displays in the Town Hall lobby and Montañeta Square. The city also hosts festive fairs like the magical tree at Canalejas Park, an ice rink at Pier 12, the Rabasa Christmas Fair, and the children’s fair in Séneca Square complete with Santa’s House, creating perfect spots for family fun.
Additional seasonal highlights include Christmas markets, a bonfire in Montañeta Square, New Year’s Eve celebrations along Méndez Núñez Rambla, and the grand Three Kings Parade on 5 January. Alicante City Council has organised plenty of events, from royal postmen traditions to special bus routes operating through the festive period.
Alicante Ayuntamiento has pulled out all the stops, with events organised across departments including festive concerts, bonfires, special bus lines, and the timeless royal postmen tradition. As one local put it, “Christmas in Alicante really brings the city alive. There’s something for everyone and so much to see and do - it’s the perfect way to get into the holiday spirit.”
