Aldi Spain is selling V-16 lights this week ahead of new driving regulations
From January 1, 2026, V-16 beacons will replace the old warning triangles and will become mandatory in Spain

From January 1 next year, all drivers will be required by law to carry a V-16 light in their cars, which can be placed on the roof of vehicles to alert other drivers in the event of a breakdown or accident. The beacons will replace the old emergency triangles, which posed serious risks as drivers had to get out of their cars on often busy roads to erect the warning signs.
In contrast, the V-16 can be attached to the roof by simply stretching your arm out the window – it’s held on by a magnet. The yellow beacon emits high-intensity flashes which are visible from long distances, and the devices will be connected to the DGT 3.0 platform. This means that emergency services will be able to locate you as soon as the V-16 is switched on.
Since only certain models have been approved by the Directorate of Traffic (DGT), there’s likely to be a huge surge in drivers scrambling to pick one up at the end of the year. They’re fully legal to use now instead of the old triangles, so it makes sense to get ahead of the game.
For anyone wanting to purchase a V-16 before the deadline, Aldi Spain is currently selling beacons that are fully compliant with the DGT regulations. But you’ll have to be quick, as their V-16 lights are only in store until close of business on Friday March 14.

Aldi recently proclaimed itself as the cheapest supermarket in Spain, and it seems they were right on the money if the V-16 light is anything to go by. The DGT has set a guide price of around €50, but this weekend, Aldi is selling their fully-legal version for just €39.99, which is 33% below the recommended retail price. It also comes with a 13-year warranty.
