ARCHIVED - Albanian gang that sold drugs to finance human trafficking taken down in Murcia and Alicante
Five people of Albanian and Moldovan origin have been arrested on the Costa Cálida and Costa Blanca

Police in Murcia and Alicante have dismantled a criminal organisation related to the Albanian mafia, for the alleged crimes of drug trafficking and false documentation, when they intended to settle permanently in this area of eastern Spain, renting different houses with false documentation to finance their main criminal activity, trafficking in human beings.
The investigation, which was carried out by the specialised agents of the National Police on this criminal organisation based in the province of Alicante and with the intention of expanding to the Region of Murcia, detected the presence of a female member of the organisation in a well-known Business Centre in the city of Murcia, when she was about to close a deal with real estate agents for the rental of properties in the coastal areas of Murcia and Alicante.
The criminal organisation located and rented large houses and villas by providing false documentation such as payslips, employment contracts and identity documents, with the aim of setting up large indoor marijuana plantations that produced 4 harvests a year, distributing the substances internationally with huge profits, in order to finance the main work of the organisation, the trafficking of human beings for sexual exploitation.
The detainees acted in a concerted and hierarchical manner, dividing their functions and with different levels of specialisation, with drivers, locators of houses in isolated areas, security guards, installers and also security men known as “the soldiers”.
The police investigation led to the entry and search of two properties located in the Alicante towns of Busot and Orihuela Costa, locating one large marijuana plantation and the preparations to start another.
The five detainees were handed over to the Duty Courts of Murcia and Alicante, and the two main perpetrators of the criminal network were immediately sent to prison.
