ARCHIVED - Aircraft noise and sonic booms possible over Camposol
The Councillor for Camposol, Silvana Buxton, warns of possibility of excessive aircraft noise and sonic booms over the next couple of weeks
The Mayor of Lorca, Diego José Mateos has received a communication from the Colonel of the Air and Space Army, Luis Alberto Martínez, regarding the Tactical Leadership Program (TLP) at the Albacete Air Base where the itinerary is being prepared for the flight course FC-2023-1 in which missions involving the use of air defence radars are contemplated.
Training manoeuvres for military supersonic flights have been approved from Monday February 20 to Thursday March 2 from 15.30 p.m. to 17.30 p.m. While Lorca may seem some distance from Camposol, with these aircraft capable of flying speeds approaching 2,500kph they could be within earshot of the urbanisation within seconds.
Recently the Councillor for Camposol has received complaints from Camposol residents about aviation noise from sub-sonic aircraft, possibly from the new commercial pilot training campus near Fuente Álamo or the Air Force Academy at San Javier. Unfortunately, Mazarrón Town Hall has absolutely no control or authority over airspace as this is in the hands of the Spanish Aviation Safety and Security Agency (AESA).
Councillor Buxton would like animal owners, parents and people of a nervous disposition to be aware of the possibility of sudden and loud aircraft noise between the dates and times mentioned. There have also been cases during previous military supersonic aircraft training where the noise and vibrations caused by airplanes when breaking the sound barrier has been mistaken for an earthquake!
