Adamuz train accident death toll rises to 46
Fourteen people remain in hospital across Andalucía following the fatal rail accident in Córdoba province
An additional death has been confirmed following the train accident that occurred on January 18 in the town of Adamuz (Córdoba), bringing the total number of fatalities to 46. The latest victim is a 42-year-old woman from La Palma del Condado in Huelva, who has died in hospital this Saturday January 31.According to the Regional Ministry of Health, 14 people injured in the accident remain hospitalised in Andalucía. This is down by three patients compared with this Friday, following one death in the Intensive Care Unit and two hospital discharges in the last 24 hours.
Of those still receiving treatment, one is a child who is being cared for on a ward at the Reina Sofía Hospital in Córdoba. The remaining 13 patients are adults, two of whom are in intensive care. One ICU patient is at the Reina Sofía Hospital, while the other is being treated at the San Juan de Dios Hospital, also in Córdoba.
In total, 126 people have received medical treatment in Andalusian health centres as a result of the accident, with 111 of them now having been discharged.
The Adamuz accident, along with the string of other train accidents that followed it in the same week, have served to seriously undermine public trust in Spain’s railway network, which has the most miles of high the most miles of high-speed track anywhere in Europe and is second in the world only to China.
In a recent survey, over a third of people said they now feel less confident about taking the train in Spain.
