ARCHIVED - Zara Spain begins charging customers for returns of online purchases
Customers in Spain requiring an at-home pick-up will have to pay 1.95 euros
There’s bad news for lovers of high street clothing store Zara as its parent company Inditex has announced that it has begun charging customers in Spain who want their returns picked up from home.
From Wednesday February 1, if a customer decides they don’t want to keep a Zara item they purchased online, the company will charge 1.95 euros in the event that a delivery person must go to the home to collect the package.
However, returns to the store will continue to be free.
Inditex explained that a pick-up fee is “normally” charged by many of its other companies abroad to cover the salary of the driver and fuel costs and now it seems, it’s Spain’s turn.
To avoid confusion, when online shoppers are selecting a shipping method on Zara’s website, the company will remind them that a charge may be payable if they decide to make a return.
It reads: "Returns of orders placed after 02.01.2023 will have a cost of 1.95 euros that will be deducted from the amount refunded."
With the aim of cutting down on the “unaffordable” volumes of returns, the Spanish company has already implemented the charge in around 30 countries including Germany and the United Kingdom. In Spain alone, more than 30% of products bought online are routinely sent back.
Other Inditex group stores, such as Pull&Bear, Stradivarius, Bershka and Massimo Dutti have also begun to collect these payments when a delivery drivers is needed.
