Which supermarkets open in the Region of Murcia on March 19
Wednesday March 19 is a public holiday in Alicante and the Region of Murcia

This March 19 is rather a special day in certain parts of Spain as it combines two celebrations: Father’s Day, or Día del Padre, and the feast day of San José. Interestingly though, most of the country has chosen not to elect Wednesday a holiday, so it is only a festivo in the Region of Murcia and the Valencian Community.
In Murcia, most businesses and schools will have a day off mid-week and may want to take advantage of the break to do a little shopping – that’s if the weather holds out. However, because it’s a bank holiday, many stores and supermarkets will remain shut or at least alter their opening hours.
As always, it’s best to check with your local shops before heading out but here you can find the opening hours of many of the more popular stores in the Region of Murcia.
Shopping centres
Shopping centres in the Region of Murcia will remain open for Father's Day. Nueva Condomina, Thader, Dos Mares, Atalayas, La Noria Outlet, Parque Almenara and Espacio Mediterráneo, among others, will be open to customers during regular business hours, according to their websites.
Meanwhile, El Corte Inglés stores in Murcia and Cartagena will also be open, but with shorter hours, from 11am to 9pm.
Supermarkets
Most Carrefour, Día, Alcampo and Lidl supermarkets in the Region of Murcia will open their regular hours. However, Mercadona and SuperDumbo, as usual, will remain closed on March 19.
Stores
The furniture chain IKEA will remain open during the San José celebrations. MediaMarkt stores in Lorca and Murcia will open this Wednesday, but with special hours from 11am to 9pm.
Leroy Merlin stores in the Region will also be opening their doors, although in this case, the hours will vary depending on the establishment. The stores in Murcia, Murcia Sur and Lorca will be open from 10am to 10pm, in San Javier from 9am to 10pm and in Cartagena from 9.30am to 8.30pm.
Upcoming holidays in the Region of Murcia
After Father's Day, the Region of Murcia will not have another break until Easter.
The next bank holidays will be celebrated on April 17 and 18, Holy Thursday and Good Friday, which will provide Murcianos with a nice four-day long weekend.
After this, Murcia will host the Bando de la Huerta holiday on Tuesday April 22.
