Vega Baja saturated by one of the wettest March's in 70 years
The current record is held by March 2022, when the Costa Blanca was drenched by 18 days of rain
Anybody living in or visiting the Vega Baja region of Alicante at the moment won’t be surprised with the news that this March is shaping up to be one of the wettest since records began. We’re only half way through the month, but there’s hardly been a day when some rain or showers haven’t fallen in the likes of Benidorm, Orihuela and Torrevieja.
As of March 17, a whopping nine days of rain were recorded in the Vega Baja, and this trend is expected to continue during the last two weeks of the month. If this happens, March 2025 stands a good chance of being labelled the wettest in 70 years.
Good news for the reservoirs, very bad news for holidaymakers.
March 2022, previously considered the wettest in recent years, saw 18 days of rain. However, weather forecasts for 2025 are close to matching that record and the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has predicted yet more rain for the coming days.
This week, Monday and Tuesday were miserably wet and stormy. While the forecasts are by no means certain, it looks like the rain will return right in time for the weekend after a couple of bright, dry days.
