The Teatro Thuillier in Caravaca de la Cruz
The main theatre in Caravaca dates back to 1843
The Teatro Thuillier was first built as a “Patio de Comedias” on the site of the former hospital of the Brotherhood of San Juan de Dios in the centre of Caravaca de la Cruz as long ago as 1843.
Since then it has undergone various reforms and renovations, the last of them under the supervision of architects Joaquín and Manuel Sainz de Vicuña in 1986, and now holds a seated audience of 428 for a variety of functions and entertainment throughout the year. There is full access for those of limited mobility and the nearest parking is in the Paseo de Santa Clara (click here for map).
Tickets for events are usually available through an online agency here and from local retail outlets.
The theatre is named after Spanish actor Emilio Thuillier (1868-1940), whose fame became widespread in the 1890s and who premiered works by leading contemporary dramatists including José Echegaray, the Quintero brothers, Benito Pérez Galdós and Linares Rivas as well as performing in Spanish adaptations of Othello and Falstaff.
This name was adopted after Thuillier's hugely successful visit to Caravaca in 1903.
