The Teatro Concha Segura in Yecla
This central theatre in Yecla dates from the 1880s
The current Teatro Concha Segura was built between 1886 and 1887 and occupies the spot on which the former Pósito de Labradores grain store was located.
The theatre was built by Francisco Albiñana Sánchez and decorated by painter Juan Albert Seva, and just four years later, in 1890, the façade was remodelled by architect Justo Millán Espinosa. He altered the façade in a classical style, while inside the theatre is Italian in style with a horseshoe-shaped plan, its box seats interrupted by cast iron columns.
In 1899 the theatre was named after local actress Concha Segura (1875-1955), who by 1894, at the age of 19, was already a hit on the stages of Madrid. She and her sisters performed in Yecla in September 1899, and it was then that the Town Hall announced the naming of the establishment.
