The Plaza de España in Lorca is full of people celebrating the first day of Christmas
Hundreds of locals flock to the centre of Lorca as the Christmas spirit gets into full swing
Lorca city council’s determined commitment to hold great events in the monumental areas of the town is paying off after a great concert in the Plaza de España, where people were encourgaed to buy gifts for the upcoming holidays and have a wonderful time.
The first session of ‘Young Christmas’ ended this weekend as people descended into the Plaza de España for the festivities. "There were hundreds of Lorcans and visitors, because our city has become a point of attraction not only for citizens who live in different parts of the municipality, but also for neighbouring towns,” stated the young talent councillor Antonio David Sanchez.
The councillor continued by stating that "Before, Lorcans went away to enjoy their leisure time. Now, not only do they stay, but we receive public from all over the Region, due to the attractive cultural and festive programme that our city offers practically 365 days a year.”
During the afternoon in the Plaza Plaza de España, the Christmas programme began with music from Cano. Then, at 9pm, there was a concert by Manuel González, singer of the group Los Rebujitos. The streets of the old town became very lively until well into the night as people had a great time partying and getting into the holiday spirit.
The events all took place within the ninth edition of the Lorca Festival of Contemporary Jewish Culture, and as the councillor said of the events, “It shows that the determined commitment to holding dynamic events in the most monumental area fills the streets and with them, hospitality establishments and encourages shopping for the upcoming holidays.”
The Christmas events last year in Lorca were a huge success and the city council is working hard to ensure that this year the festivities are even better. The Councillor again spoke to this matter by saying, "Last Christmas was a success and as has been seen this weekend, this year's could exceed the figures from last year"
Furthermore, the government of Lorca has been working hard to continually improve and revitalise the historic centre of the city in order to draw people into the town. This year's festivities and the excellent reception they have had this year has gone a long way in improving the old town of Lorca again as a thriving and dynamic place for people to enjoy themselves.
