ARCHIVED - The Paco Rabal Interpretation Centre opens its doors in Aguilas
The contemporary museum celebrates the life and works of one of the Region of Murcia’s most famous actors and film-makers
The ultra-modern and interactive Paco Rabal Interpretation Centre in Aguilas was inaugurated on Friday January 27 in the presence of the local hero’s children, Teresa and Benito Rabal, the Mayor of Águilas, Mari Carmen Moreno, and the Councillor for Culture, Maido Simó.Born in Águilas in 1926, Rabal carved out an illustrious career as an actor, director and screenwriter, appearing in around 200 films and winning several national and international awards.
Paying homage to one of Spain’s best loved actors, the new museum spans 159 metres of the Casa de la Cultura and was designed by Javier Esquiva, in collaboration with Diana Jusdado and Santa-Cruz Arquitectura.
The Interpretation Centre plays out the life of the cinematic legend in two distinct areas: Paco Rabal. The man. and Paco Rabal. The actor.
Furthermore, the exhibition space is divided into seven distinct units: Paco Rabal. His origins; Paco Rabal. His relationships; Paco Rabal. Heart of Murcia and soul of a poet; Paco Rabal and the theatre; Paco Rabal and the cinema; Paco Rabal and television; and Paco Rabal, award-winning actor.
The walls and pillars of the entire space have been finished in black to offer the perfect backdrop for audiovisual projections and dramatic spotlights which highlight an array of displays.
The project’s 110,000 budget was 80% financed by the European Regional Development Fund (FEDER).
