ARCHIVED - Talks affecting Camposol and Mazarron continue with CHS water administration board
Mazarrón Council hold working meeting with CHS, two important Camposol issues are discussed
The Confederación Hidrográfica del Segura (CHS) is similar to the Rivers Authority in the UK, it is part of the Spanish national government and controls all waterways and riverbeds in the River Segura basin.
At a recent meeting the CHS President, Mario Urrea, accompanied by Water Commissioner Javier García, met representatives of the Mazarrón council including Mayor, Gaspar Miras, councillor, Ginés Campillo and the Municipal Roads Engineer, Francisco M. García, to discuss topics of municipal interest.
These topics included administrative processing of Plan Parcials 3 and 5 of the Bahía Development and Castellar II proposals for possible alternatives for the interception of Ramblas Grande and Cruz del Muerto, which is under study.
In relation to Camposol, the issues under discussion were the channelling of the Rambla de los Aznares, which is a dry riverbed running through Sector D of the urbanisation and which has the possibility for flooding, as occured in 2014. This watercourse was the subject of several recent technical visits and the proposed solution is for the CHS to carry out measures outside the urbanisation, dealing with the rainfall flowing from the catchment area and by Mazarrón Council taking action inside the urbanisation.
The other issue was the bridge connecting Sectors C & D with the Sector B and the wider world, which has been a concern for some years. There have been two partial collapses, one in 2012 which put the bridge out of commission for vehicles for around 5 months, and the most recent one caused by runoff rainwater.
Both collapses were repaired by the Council, the latest after an emergency order in April of this year, but the overall state of the bridge still needs addressing, and the solution under consideration is the construction of a new bridge (although this could be an adaption of the existing structure).
