Spain weekend weather March 19-22: Sunshine and showers as Storm Therese arrives
We can expect a mix of sunshine and showers across Spain as the 19th high-impact storm of the season hits

Average temperatures forecast for Saturday March 21
After a mild and settled start, Spain’s weather is taking another turn this weekend as Storm Therese, the 19th named storm of the season, moves into the picture.
It’s already a record breaking year for storms, with more high-impact systems than ever recorded since naming began, and this latest one is expected to bring the most disruption to the Canary Islands.
On the mainland, the outlook is a lot more mixed, with a bit of everything over the next few days, from sunshine to scattered showers and slightly cooler temperatures.
Thursday March 19

The influence of Storm Therese will start to be felt as early as Thursday, although the mainland should stay fairly settled overall for the time being. We can expect a mix of cloud and sunny spells across much of Spain, with light rain pushing into parts of western and southern regions later in the day.
Along the Mediterranean coast, conditions should stay mostly dry with some sunshine, although it may feel a little breezy at times.
The Canary Islands, however, will quickly begin to see the worst of the storm, with heavy rain, strong winds and rough seas developing.
Very strong easterly gusts are also expected in Cádiz and Almería, where yellow alerts are in place.
Maximum temperatures will rise by a degree or two in the southwest of Spain.
Friday March 20

Friday looks more unsettled across a wider area. Rain will become more widespread, especially in western and southern Spain, with showers spreading inland and becoming heavier at times.
Central areas could see cloudy skies with occasional rain, while the Mediterranean coast may still escape the worst of it, although conditions will turn more changeable.
In the Canary Islands, stormy conditions will continue, with intense rain and strong winds still causing disruption.
Daytime temperatures are expected to fall across the board.
Saturday March 21

On Saturday, showers remain likely across much of the country, particularly in the north and west, although there will be brighter spells in between.
Along the eastern coast, it’s a case of sunshine and cloud with the chance of a passing shower, but nothing too persistent.
However, the persistent breeze will carry in a blanket of Saharan dust, which will impact most of the country from early morning.
Temperatures should remain fairly mild for the time of year, although slightly lower than earlier in the month.
Sunday March 22

By Sunday, conditions will begin to settle slightly, although it’s not a complete return to clear skies.
There will still be some cloud around and the odd shower in places, but more sunshine is expected to break through, especially in eastern and southern areas.
The Canary Islands should also start to see gradual improvement as the storm begins to ease, although some unsettled conditions may linger.
